Clean Fuels Ohio Launches Ohio Green Fleets Program

Clean Fuels Ohio recently launched a new program designed to significantly improve the environmental performance of business and government vehicle fleets across Ohio through diesel cleanup and other strategies. The program, called Ohio Green Fleets, is composed of three core components: working with fleet managers to develop a Green Fleet policy tailored to their specific needs, hands on support and assistance in implementing the policy, and the development of a statewide rating system to recognize those fleets that have made positive progress toward their environmental goals.

Why Ohio Green Fleets?
• These fuels and technologies offer great benefits including air quality improvements, compliance with air quality mandates, reduction in tax expenditures, increased energy security and benefits to Ohio’s economy.
• People in government, the private sector, policy makers and the general public are hearing much more today about alternative fuels. They are receptive to these messages but are unsure about details of implementation.
• The development of a uniform statewide recognition system will make it easy to determine who has become a leader in green technology use for transportation energy.

"Ohio Green Fleets will connect people together and serve as an expert information clearinghouse, not only about funding sources, but about fleet projects themselves," said Sam Spofforth, executive director of Clean Fuels Ohio. The program officially kicked off in mid August with broad support from across the state and even the nation.

Clean Fuels Ohio is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the use of cleaner and energy-efficient domestic fuels and vehicles in order to improve air quality and health, reduce climate change, curb dependence on imported petroleum, and support Ohio’s economy.
