The SCHOOL for THOUGHT Presents How to Live Simply
The SCHOOL for THOUGHT is a progressive enterprise on a mission to enrich curious and reflective personalities with ideas for living wisely and well. Different from today’s typical academia and “self help,” the school encourages people to ponder important topics in a non-secular environment with others who enjoy true stimulation of the mind.
Through a variety of discussion groups, lectures and guerilla style classrooms we draw upon the work of great intellectuals past and present in the areas of philosophy, psychology, history, literature and the arts. We are concerned with presenting ideas that will help one evaluate life from a fresh perspective while simultaneously developing the inner self, among other intellectual improvements. Through this, thinking more creatively and consciously will come naturally and will in turn aid one’s understanding of what true happiness and fulfillment are in key areas of life such as career, relationships, family, environment and even one’s leisure activities.
The SCHOOL for THOUGHT will have its kick off event “How to Live Simply” in two parts. Part one, facilitated by Nathan Taxel, education coordinator from the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, will discuss what individuals can do to simplify and slow down their daily life in order to enjoy a return to happiness. Through consciously deciding to make small changes, individuals can automatically reduce consumption, waste and the need for “things” that complicate one’s life. We’ll explore how simplifying can lead to better relationships, make more time for leisure, help you assess career choices…all while being better stewards of our natural resources.
The second part of the session will be at Daniel Fisher’s Organic Farm & Dairy in Middlefield, Ohio. Participants will be given a glimpse into the Amish culture which has always practiced simple living and austerity as a way of life. An authentic organic Amish lunch will be served and afterwards the Fishers will give a tour of the farm and discuss how living organically goes hand in hand with a simpler lifestyle. During these times of economic uncertainty and ecological gloom it is the school’s intention for participants to leave with a few ideas that will empower them to have more freedom by adopting a few changes in their lifestyle that can yield big rewards.
