High School Teachers and Students Take the Envirothon Challenge

EnvirothonEnvirothon is a national, academic, outdoor competition for high school students, which is designed to stimulate, reinforce and enhance interest in the environment and natural resources. The Envirothon tests students’ knowledge of natural resources in five categories: soils, wildlife, forestry, aquatics and current environmental issues. This year’s current environmental issue is “Protection of Groundwater through Urban, Agricultural and Environmental Planning.”

Students compete through team problem solving activities. A competitive outdoor team event, the Envirothon offers a unique and enjoyable learning experience. A team consists of five students, all from the same high school.

Five “Area Envirothons” are conducted around Ohio each spring. The top four teams from each of these area competitions progress to the Ohio Envirothon in June. The top-scoring team in the Ohio Envirothon is eligible to compete in the Canon Envirothon in August.

The Area II Envirothon is April 28, at Camp Wise in Chardon, Ohio. This event is hosted by the Geauga and Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation Districts. If you would like to start an Envirothon team at your school, call 216-524-6580, ext. 22.
