Don’t miss this year’s It’s Easy Being Green films at this year’s 33rd Cleveland International Film Festival March 19 - 29 at Tower City Cinemas in Cleveland.

At the Edge of the World (USA/Australia/Antarctica, 2008, 92 min) - Dan Stone - A group of activists become pirates, taking it upon themselves (without Greenpeace’s help) to fight the illegal whale hunting by Japanese “research” vessels.

The members of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society protect the lives of whales, which are on the verge of extinction, in the awe-inspiring documentary “At the Edge of the World.”

The Dancing Forest (United Kingdom/Togo, 2008, 76 min) - Brice Laine - Focuses on a small village in Togo, where an organization called CIDAP brings together the community to teach the villagers agricultural techniques to bring back the wasted land.

HomeGrown (USA, 2008, 52 min) - Robert McFalls - Homegrown is an inspiring intimate portrait of what it’s like to live like ‘Little House on the Prairie’ in the 21st Century. It follows the Dervaes family as they live ‘off the grid’ on a small family farm next to a busy California freeway.

The Last Days of Shishmaref (Netherlands/USA, 2008, 90 min) - Jan Louter - Documentary focusing on a small Alaskan village that is slowly melting off the map.

Milking the Rhino (USA, 2008, 84 min) - David E. Simpson - Documentary focusing on two tribes in Namibia and Kenya who have shifted from hunting wildlife to conservation.

Poly Cultures - Food Where We Live (USA, 2009, 104 min) - Tom Kondilis - This project documents the diverse communities around Northeast Ohio coming together to grow a more sustainable local food system.

Road Ahead: The First Green Long March (China, USA, 2008, 52 min) - Ryan Wong - The 2008 ‘Green’ Olympics in Beijing gave Chinese environmentalists a chance to be heard. A year before the event, 2,000 college students from across the nation came together to make a powerful statement. Forming 10 survey teams, they traveled by train, car, and foot to see China’s environmental challenges up close and spread their passion for conservation. Told from the students’ perspective, The Road Ahead: The First Green Long March is a hopeful story that proves a few small sparks can ignite a movement.

Upstream Battle (Germany/USA, 2008, 97 min) - Ben Kempas - Documents the fight of the native Hoopa tribe to reclaim salmon fishing rights on the Klamath River in northern California/Southern Oregon.
