WKYC-TV Launches its ‘Go Green’ Campaign

Go Green WKYCWKYC-TV is kicking off a long term initiative to “Go Green,” with the goal of taking Northeast Ohio along with it. The station launched its “Go Green” campaign on Earth Day, April 22. The goal is to help viewers find practical ways to make positive environmental changes in their lifestyle, their homes and their businesses.

The station is not going it alone. Reporters, producers and managers are talking with green experts in the community who are connecting them with the people and programs that can help people make smarter, more environmentally conscious choices. And, all of resulting information is brought directly to viewers. Throughout the year, viewers will get information on air and online that they can use in their life every day.

WKYC’s “Go Green” project has already highlighted a local group called APOC, “A Piece of Cleveland.” APOC salvages wood out of old houses and buildings and transforms it into exquisite countertops and furniture. Another story focused on Great Lakes Towing’s “green tugboat.” The station also profiled Rebecca Reynolds and her company “Green Clean” and a local Aveda Spa that features organic products. If you missed the stories, log onto www.wkyc.com and see for yourself.

Going green will help viewers and communities save money, improving quality of life. On www.wkyc.com, viewers can find a “Go Green” page with real ideas and solutions, from recycling tips and locations to green improvement projects for homes and yards. “There is already a lot of great green work going on in our community,” said WKYC News Director Rita Andolsen. “We want to help push that movement forward and connect viewers with the information and resources they need, and at the same time begin the process of ‘greening’ our own TV station.”

As the WKYC “Go Green” project continues, the station plans to share ideas, money saving tips and stories that will help in this movement that is catching hold across Northeast Ohio. From recycling, to home improvement projects to green yards, “Go Green” will continue to offer viewers on air and online ideas and interactive opportunities allowing viewers to connect with each other, and with green solutions. The station is also asking that those who have ideas pass them on to WKYC-TV’s “Green Team.” They want to hear from those who are already “Going Green,” or just beginning the process. Call the station at 216-344-3300 or send e-mail to morningshow@wkyc.com.
