Local Artist Sculpts with Recycled Material

Mark Alan Langan has been working with recycled corrugated materials for more than four years. What started out as an experiment has turned into a full fledged business creating three-dimensional, aesthetically beautiful artwork out of nothing but trash.

Langan’s art work adorns office boardrooms and lobbies from coast to coast. The artwork tends to be either a decorative art piece or a rendition of a corporate logo made completely from recycled corrugated cardboard and glue.

Although Langan’s artwork isn’t making a huge dent in the world of recycling, it has made him more aware of the importance of recycling. He hopes his artwork will help influence others to take part in reducing, reusing and recycling their waste.

Langan’s artwork is a one of a kind, custom crafted sculpture. Each piece is built within the confines of a hardwood frame and built atop a luan panel which is glued and nailed into place. The panels are salvaged from home building site dumpsters after flooring is laid. All the corrugated cardboard used in the artwork comes from boxes he retrieves from the trash in his neighborhood. They are collapsed and cut into panels and segregated by various sizes.
