Hellbenders in Ohio

Hellbenders - Gregory LippsIn celebration of the Year of the Frog, come learn about the ongoing conservation efforts in Ohio to save the Eastern Hellbender, an endangered salamander native to Ohio streams. Gregory Lipps, Coordinator for the Ohio Salamander Monitoring Program will speak on Wed., June 18 at 7 p.m. This event is presented by Biodiversity Alliance.

The hellbender is a large aquatic salamander found in cool streams in the northeastern U.S. Recent surveys of streams in Ohio and elsewhere within its range have raised concerns about its continued survival. Lipps discusses hellbender conservation efforts in Ohio, including the search for factors that may be playing a role in its decline.

Lecture to be held at The Cleveland Museum of Natural History. Tickets available from the Museum Box Office at 216-231-1177 or online at www.cmnh.org. There is a $5 fee. All proceeds go towards amphibian conservation.
