Planet Green Offers Organic, Toxic-Free Products

Movie

The organic toys, outfits and other baby goods in the newly redesigned Planet Green store aren’t just adorable, they’re part of owner Rebecca Reynolds’s new focus on our planet’s most vulnerable people, children. Reynolds has found that shoppers are seeking products and information to help raise their children healthy while caring for the environment.

There are good reasons to be concerned about the products children use every day. Exposure to toxins in common lotions, shampoos, clothing, detergents, toys and packaging can cause a host of health and behavioral problems.

According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Oppositional Defiant Disorder have been linked to phthalate levels from prenatal exposure. Phthalates are considered endocrine disruptors because they interfere with the body’s hormonal system. Research is beginning to link endocrine disruptors like phthalates to auto-immune disorders and obesity.

Chemicals are up to ten times more toxic to children than adults relative to their body weight. That’s because children have developing brains and are less able to detoxify, according to the National Academy of Sciences. The Environmental Protection Agency says that 50 percent of a child’s lifetime cancer risk is accumulated in the first two years of life.

Half of all insecticides used in the U.S. is organophosphate pesticides (OP). They are sprayed on crops such as cotton. The levels of OP found in blood samples are twice as high in children as adults. OP is linked to developmental delays, hyperactivity, learning disabilities, behavior disorders and motor dysfunction, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Planet Green, at 19054 Old Detroit Rd. in Rocky River, is stocked with locally made and organic products such as clothing, toys, bedding, soaps, paints and gifts. But it offers much more. Specialized educational programs to help parents, daycare centers and other organizations create healthier conditions. Plus an organic baby registry and space for baby showers.

These services dovetail with those provided by Planet Green’s sister company, Green Clean, Northeast Ohio’s first organic cleaning company. Green Clean offers eco-friendly cleaning for homes and businesses.

Rebecca now offers nutrition and health coaching. She is a graduate of Integrative Nutrition and a licensed health counselor. With 25 years of personal experience in healthy living, her positive and energetic focus ensures her client’s goals become a reality.
