Biodiversity Alliance, Dominion Present 2008 Northeast Ohio Environmental Awards

Biodiversity Alliance, a Greater Cleveland collaborative for conservation, and Dominion, one of the nation’s largest energy producers, presented their second annual Northeast Ohio Environmental Awards in October. The 2008 award winners are: West Geauga High School’s Wetlands Education Team, Massillon Middle School’s Stop Global Warming Club, Case Western Reserve University and EarthWatch Ohio. The award recipients were honored during an evening ceremony at The Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

The awards recognize outstanding achievements of organizations, schools and individuals in a wide variety of environmental initiatives throughout the region. The awards honor those who have demonstrated a commitment to environmental excellence, leadership and accomplishment in their respective fields. A panel of independent judges evaluated each entry. Winners in each category received a $2,500 donation to the nonprofit environmental organization of their choice and a framed herbarium print of an endangered native wildflower from the Museum’s herbarium collection.

Biodiversity Alliance member institutions include Cleveland Botanical Garden, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo/Cleveland Zoological Society, The Cleveland Museum of Natural History and The Holden Arboretum. Biodiversity Alliance’s mission is to conserve biodiversity and natural environments.
