Kent Environmental Council Annual Meeting
The Kent Environmental Council (KEC), a grassroots citizens environmental advocacy group whose history goes back to 1970, will be hosting its Annual Meeting Feb. 11, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Kent at 1456 Summit St. in Kent. Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m., the election of officers for the coming year will be at 7:15 p.m., and the program starts at 7:30 p.m. The program consists of presentations and discussions led by State Rep. Kathy Chandler, 68th district and State Sen. Tom Sawyer, 28th district. Rep. Chandler and Sen. Sawyer will be updating participants on legislative issues that affect the environmental quality and health of all Ohioans, such as the Great Lakes Compact, energy resources, transportation, air quality and new approaches to environmental education.
KEC members meet every Friday at Diggers Restaurant, 802 N. Mantua St. in Kent at 8 a.m., for lively discussion and exchange of views on environmental issues. We welcome new people to attend these weekly meetings. At KEC we believe that humans can work together to achieve a livable, sustainable environment for future generations. There are many KEC’s visions that have come to fruition, including a model county-wide recycling program, a network of bicycle paths built with the cooperation of several political subdivisions, clean water running freely through Kent in an undammed Cuyahoga River, creation of a Portage County Park District, and sustainability and riparian protection plans for the City of Kent. Please consider joining us for breakfast each Friday of the week.
