Local EcoArtist Asks You to Take "A Closer Look…"

Art

Come take "A Closer Look." at the solo exhibit of environmental artworks by Debra Sue Solecki. The show will be open from Dec. 3 to Jan. 30 at the Beck Center for the Cultural Arts, 17801 Detroit Rd., Lakewood. There will be an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 11.

A step beyond traditional landscapes, Debra Sue Solecki's award winning artwork offers the viewers images of nature that they can connect to and question. Subjects are frozen in time, giving the viewer a chance to examine and become more familiar with their natural environment. This encourages the viewer to search beyond their first impression and look for further meaning in the work.

Solecki captures the beauty of nature while illustrating the visual effects of the passage of time, such as erosion and decay. Trees diminished by the hand of man serve as a reminder that we have a personal connection to our fragile natural environment. Consequently, the exhibit title "A Closer Look." may be suggesting not only to enjoy the artwork but that viewers should also consider how their own actions can affect our world.
